My First Week Hosting on Fanbase: A Recap and Reflections

My First Week Hosting on Fanbase: A Recap and Reflections

As I wrap up my first week of hosting my own camp on Fanbase, I can't help but reflect on the journey I've been on and the incredible experiences I've had. This week has been a whirlwind of conversations, learning, and personal growth. I wanted to share some insights and opportunities that emerged during this time, especially as someone who’s still finding her footing in this new space.

Discovering "Aurora" in LockedIn's Room

One of the most memorable moments of the week happened in LockedIn's room, where I had the chance to sit in on a conversation that brought together a few Gen Zers. The topic was a new buzzword, "aurora," and the discussion revolved around whether Gen Z understands the gravity of this word and its connection to faith and spirituality. It was a deep and thought-provoking conversation, touching on how words carry power and the responsibility we have in choosing our words carefully.

What stood out to me the most was the realization that there’s a significant communication gap between generations. Gen Z is learning from millennials, but there’s often a breakdown in understanding. It became clear that while we might try to repurpose words and give them new meanings, the original weight of those words doesn’t just disappear. The conversation reinforced the idea that our words matter, and they have a lasting impact, especially when tied to something as profound as faith and spirituality.

An Insightful Conversation with Gyasio

Another highlight of my week was being invited to a room with Gyasio. The conversation was incredibly insightful and left me with a lot to think about. If I’m honest, I still struggle with social anxiety, which might be surprising to some. I used to be the loud, outspoken one in any room. But between the pandemic, grappling with my identity as a new mom, and adjusting to life as a solo parent, I’ve had to readapt. These days, most of my conversations are with my children, and I often miss out on social interactions outside of that. So, this experience of being on stage, just the two of us for a great portion of the conversation, was both nerve-wracking and enlightening.

Gyasio shared his personal revelations, including his own "coming to Jesus" moment, which was truly his story to tell. I was so appreciative of his transparency and openness. Through our conversation, he taught me the difference between trading and investing, and we discussed the attitudes and relationships people have with money. We delved into how the Black community specifically relates to money, touched on imposter syndrome, and even expanded the discussion to podcasting and art.

One of the most significant takeaways for me was the clarity I gained about the direction I want to take next. This conversation solidified my decision to expand my coaching and consulting services. I realized I want to move out of individualized coaching and instead focus on working with corporate offices and educational institutions. This shift feels right, and I’m excited about the possibilities it holds.

High-Level Conversations with Business Minds

Later in the week, I found myself sneaking into another room for a high-level conversation with some sharp business minds on the platform. We discussed government contracts, sales funnels, and the art of pivoting in business. The conversation with Lanard, Sam, and Njeri was eye-opening, and I was grateful to be in the room with such knowledgeable individuals. It’s moments like these that remind me of the value of being in the right spaces and engaging with the right people.

Sharing My Journey as a Podcaster

On Friday, I was invited to share my personal journey and experience as a podcaster and podcast strategist. It’s always a pleasure to talk about yourself, not just for the sake of sharing, but because it offers opportunities for growth. Public speaking is something I’m constantly working on, and these moments allow me to practice and improve. Sharing my story also helps me connect with new people and provide clarity or insights that might resonate with others.

The theme of the conversation was "knowledge of self," which couldn’t have been more on point. I’m very intentional about learning more about myself, especially at this stage of my life. With a new career change and my role as a new mom, I’m constantly discovering new aspects of who I am and what my place in this world is. After talking about my journey, we transitioned into a fun "This or That" Jeopardy-style game night. It was a blast, and I even managed to steer the conversation toward a hip-hop lesson, which everyone was gracious enough to indulge.

The Power of Casual Conversations

Reflecting on the week, I’ve come to realize just how much you can gain from casual conversations. Social audio spaces, like the ones on Fanbase, can be incredibly useful, enlightening, and entertaining. They remind me a lot of the feelings I get from podcasting—the blend of education and entertainment, or "edutainment," as I like to call it. The topics are endless, ranging from surface-level chats to deep, high-level discussions. And the people you meet come from all walks of life, each bringing their unique perspectives to the table.

Putting yourself out there, especially in social audio spaces, is invaluable. It’s easy to dim your light or shy away from participating because you’re afraid of coming off as socially awkward. But this week taught me the importance of speaking up, sharing your thoughts, and building connections. It’s a principle that applies not just online, but in life in general. I’m excited to continue building and growing on Fanbase and seeing where this journey takes me.

An Invitation to Join Me on Fanbase

If you haven’t already, I invite you to follow me on Fanbase. If you’re feeling adventurous, consider subscribing to my content. I’m documenting my process in a digital diary entry format, which could be especially helpful for newbies who want to learn more about stepping into content creation and building a presence in audio spaces, particularly on Fanbase. It’s been an incredible journey so far, and I’m looking forward to sharing more insights and experiences with all of you.
