Ditch Twitter and Build Your Future on Fanbase
Earlier today, I hosted an insightful audio room on Fanbase, diving deep into several important topics that are reshaping the social media landscape. As a Fanbasador, my goal was to engage with the community and explore the opportunities and challenges facing creators today. From the role of Fanbasadors to discussions about platform safety and the rise of Blue Sky, the conversation centered on the growing need for alternative social media platforms that truly prioritize creator empowerment.
The Changing Landscape of Social Media
To kick off the conversation, I replayed a powerful video from Isaac Hayes III, founder of Fanbase, in which he spoke passionately about the mass exodus from Twitter (now X) and the growing influence of platforms like Blue Sky. Since Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, many users have voiced concerns about political biases and the platform’s algorithmic manipulation. The platform has increasingly catered to right-wing content, alienating users who seek more balanced, diverse conversations.
Isaac’s comments highlight a critical shift in social media dynamics. People are no longer willing to stay on platforms that limit their expression or silence their voices, especially in marginalized communities. Instead, they’re flocking to new platforms that offer greater transparency and control over content. Blue Sky, for instance, has seen a significant rise in users, growing from 6.18 million to 15 million in just 90 days. This growth signifies that there is a growing demand for decentralized platforms where users can own their content without being subjected to manipulative algorithms.
Recap of the Thursday Tech Room: The Promise of Decentralized Platforms
In this week’s Tech Thursday session, Rama shared some exciting updates and upcoming features that will enhance the Fanbase experience. Unlike the focus on decentralization in some other platforms, the conversation centered around the improvements Fanbase is making to better serve creators.
Profile 2.0 Enhancements will soon allow users to display all content types—Flix, Fanbase Plus, and traditional media—in one view on their profile’s first tab. The Exclusives section will also be upgraded to showcase all exclusive content, including live streams. These changes will make it easier for creators to present their work to followers in a more organized and attractive way.
For live streams, starting next week, saved streams will appear automatically on your profile. Public streams will show up in the main feed, while exclusive streams will be placed in the exclusive section, allowing creators to continue earning from their streams through ongoing interaction and subscription.
The updates don’t stop there. Watch Party V2 will offer more control over video sharing, simplified sign-ups will attract more users, and web enhancements will help you grow your following. Additionally, the User Journey updates will allow non-Fanbase members to interact with your profile, even without an account.
Investment: Rama also provided an update on Fanbase’s fundraising. With over $3 million raised of their $17 million goal, Fanbase is positioned to continue developing new features and expand its creator-driven community. Rama emphasized that investing in Fanbase means investing in a platform that directly benefits creators, as Fanbase is community-owned, allowing creators to retain value from their content in a way that platforms like Twitter or Blue Sky do not.
The Role of Fanbasadors: Advocating for a Creator-Centered Community
As a Fanbasador, my role is to help foster a strong, supportive community on Fanbase. Fanbasadors are volunteers who help onboard new users, share resources, and advocate for the platform’s growth. While we don’t get paid for our efforts, we are provided with tools to engage with the community—like “hearts,” which allow us to show appreciation for others’ content.
Our primary mission is to amplify the voices of creators, making sure their experiences are heard and that they have the resources to thrive on the platform. In a time when many creators feel unheard or suppressed by larger platforms, Fanbasadors are helping to create a space where creators can find support, share their work, and build a lasting presence.
Safety on Fanbase: A Community-Driven Space
One of the core concerns for creators on social media is safety. Too often, platforms have allowed harmful content, harassment, and explicit material to thrive unchecked. On Twitter, especially after Elon Musk’s acquisition, many users—particularly creators from marginalized communities—have reported being shadow-banned or excluded from visibility.
Fanbase is committed to providing a safe space for its users. The platform has implemented community guidelines to help prevent harmful content, and moderators actively monitor the app to keep the environment supportive. However, as with any growing platform, there are still challenges in moderating content, particularly in live-streaming rooms. While Fanbase is working to address these issues, it’s clear that as the platform scales, there will need to be ongoing investment in more robust moderation tools to keep the community safe.
Blue Sky vs. Twitter/X vs. Fanbase: The Battle for Creator-Centered Platforms
The rise of Blue Sky has opened up an important conversation about the future of social media. Blue Sky, with its decentralized structure, offers users a more transparent experience without the overwhelming political content found on Twitter. Yet, while Blue Sky is growing rapidly, it still lacks the monetization features that are crucial for many creators. Without these tools, creators are left without the means to earn a living from their content.
On the other hand, Fanbase is built with creator empowerment at its core. It offers multiple ways for creators to earn income, whether through paid subscriptions, tips, or paid content. The platform’s focus on community and creator control is what sets it apart from both Blue Sky and Twitter. While Twitter has become increasingly controversial under Musk’s leadership, Fanbase is striving to create an alternative that values diverse voices, fosters safe spaces, and provides the tools needed for creators to succeed.
Fanbase’s commitment to creator ownership, along with its robust monetization tools, gives it a distinct advantage in this rapidly evolving social media landscape. Whether you’re a podcaster, musician, artist, or influencer, Fanbase offers a platform that enables you to grow, thrive, and own your content—without the fear of being silenced or suppressed.
Conclusion: Seizing the Moment for Creator Empowerment
As the social media landscape continues to evolve, we find ourselves at a crossroads. Platforms like Twitter and Instagram are increasingly seen as tools for corporate control, while alternatives like Blue Sky are emerging as potential solutions for users who crave more autonomy. However, neither of these platforms offers the same level of empowerment for creators that Fanbase does.
Fanbase is committed to helping creators build their brands, engage with their communities, and monetize their content. In an era where creators are looking for platforms that respect their work and offer the resources to succeed, Fanbase stands out as a leader in the space. It’s not just about finding an alternative to Twitter or Blue Sky—it’s about creating a platform where creators can truly own their content and their community.
