5 Steps to Define Your Niche & Passion—Without Losing Yourself

 By DaniMarie

1️⃣ Start with Your Lived Experience

What have you lived through that others need to hear about? Your upbringing, your culture, your challenges, and your wins—these are the seeds of your niche. Don’t be afraid to draw from your community, your history, or your unique perspective.

2️⃣ Focus on What You Can’t Stop Talking About

If you’re constantly breaking down hair care routines, debating sports, or teaching about generational wealth—pay attention. That’s your natural passion showing up. Build your content around that thing you could talk about for hours without getting bored.

3️⃣ Find the Overlap Between Your Story & Your Audience’s Pain Points

Your audience doesn’t just want to hear your story—they want to see how it connects to their struggles. Are you helping them navigate corporate spaces? Build businesses? Heal from trauma? Think about how your passion solves a problem, fills a gap, or empowers your community.

4️⃣ Test It—Then Commit

You don’t have to figure it all out overnight. Start creating. Try different formats: podcast episodes, YouTube videos, social audio rooms. Watch what clicks. But once you find the lane that feels aligned—lock in. Consistency is your ticket to growth.

5️⃣ Don’t Be Afraid to Get Specific

“Saying you’re a lifestyle creator is cute… but whose lifestyle?” Are you speaking to Black single moms balancing a 9-5 and side hustles? Are you for Black creatives looking to scale their podcast into a business? Go deep, not wide. Your people will find you when your message is clear.

🖤 Claiming Your Space Without Apology

As a Black creator or podcaster, your niche isn’t just a brand strategy—it’s a statement. It’s you saying:
🗣 “I belong here.”
🗣 “My story matters.”
🗣 “I’m building a platform that reflects me, my community, and my vision.”

You don’t have to do it like the next person. You don’t have to fit into anyone’s box. You just need to be you—loudly, proudly, and consistently.

Final Thoughts: Your Niche Is Your Foundation, Not Your Limitation

Your niche isn’t a trap. It’s your starting point. And as you grow, it can expand. But you have to start. Define it, refine it, and build around it.

So…
🎤 What’s your niche?
🎤 Who are you here for?
🎤 And are you ready to own it like the boss you are?

Let’s talk about it—drop your niche in the comments, and let’s build together.
